On August 17, the Utica ZooMobile brought live animal ambassadors, interactive biofacts and conservation lessons to Watson Williams Elementary. As part of the Utica Zoo’s outreach initiative designed to make environmental education accessible beyond the zoo grounds, the session introduced students to wildlife adaptations, native habitats and ecosystems. Zoo educators guided students through the presentation, encouraging curiosity while grounding the experience in practical science.
During the visit, students had the opportunity to observe ambassador animals up close while learning about their distinct behavioral traits, dietary needs and survival strategies in the wild. Alongside the live animals, educators displayed a variety of hands-on biofacts, including pelt samples, skulls and feathers, giving students a tactile way to explore how physical traits help animals thrive. The presentation also highlighted the zoo’s UZ&U initiative, framing environmental stewardship not as an abstract concept, but as a series of everyday habits that support regional and global biodiversity.
The program provided a direct connection between classroom learning and real-world science. By bringing wildlife directly to Watson Williams Elementary, the Utica ZooMobile delivered a valuable educational experience that strengthened community engagement and deepened students' interest in nature conservation.
Thank you to the Utica ZooMobile team, educators and Watson Williams Elementary for making this inspiring and educational visit possible for our students!
